Cash Envelope Money System Review & Giveaway

I have an exciting post today!  Some of you have been following my budget series.  One of the things I talked about in my post about our very tight budget, is using an envelope system.  Well, Amanda from Moon Orchid Motifs has generously offered me one of her awesome fabric envelope systems for review, AND she is offereing another one for me to giveaway to one of my readers!!!

8 Pockets for Credit Cards, or library cards, since of course we don’t have credit cards ;) 2 large pockets, plus a zippered pocket

6 Fabric “Money Envelopes” with white space for labelling categories, and secure snaps.

Sturdy snap closure to keep your wallet closed securely.

I have been using this wallet for a couple months now and I love how convenient it is!  Before, I was using my regular wallent, plus regular envelopes in a plastic zip-up make up type bag that I got at the dollar store.  Yes, it worked just fine, but this is oh-so-much-cuter.  And, I can put everything in one wallet instead of having 2 separate things in my purse.  It is kind of bulky, but it holds a lot, so it kind of has to be.

The wallet is made out of this cute gray and lime green Ty Pennington fabric.  They usually sell for $65.00 in Amanda’s etsy shop, but she is giving one away to a lucky reader!

To enter, simply leave a comment below with your best frugal/thrifty tip!

You can also earn multiple entries by following the instructions below.  I don’t “bribe” people to follow me, but you’re always welcome to subscribe to my blog, and share this post and giveaway with any friends you think may be interested.

I would love this! I saw something similar somewhere else and I’m regretting not picking one up…especially because I couldn’t find it again. I try so hard to stick to my budget.

  2. elaine says

So Lovely! This would completely motivate me to convert to the ‘envelope’ method and stop procrastinating :)

I’m sorry you feel that way. Amanda was really nice to work with and this is a way that she makes extra money to help out her family’s finances. I appreciate that for those of us on a super tight budget, this might be unaffordable, but there are many people who do have some extra and this is a great item. Especially for someone who is needing an extra boost of motivation for their budget.

I think the most important thing is to make sure you know where your money is going. A few dollars here and a few dollars there really begins to add up.

  4. says

How adorable is that!!! I want it! =) Nickel and diming almost ate us alive. Now, we know where our money goes, we don’t spend what we don’t have, and nothing is paid “on credit.” I have a saying, “I’m allergic to debt.” Quite frankly, the thought of it is suffocating. Can’t do it. :) Thanks for the giveaway and teaching us!

  5. Wendy says

Coupons and ads shopping has saved me a bit grocery shopping. Budgeting is probably the best way I have saved money.

I have been making my own Laundry detergent and for around 5 months and it really saves you money. You spend around 10 dollars for the supplies which is a box of arm and hammer washing soda, you can get this at Walmart, a box of borax laundry booster and I use Ivory soap. Directions are simple: Put 5 cups of water in a sauce pan get this hot and add 2 bars of Ivory soap that has been finely grated, put the soap in the hot water and after the soap dissolves pour it in a 5 gallon bucket, add 1 cup of Borax and one cup of Washing soda and fill it almost to the top with warn water out of the faucet. Stir well and let it sit over night it will gel and get thick. Stir it well and then use a small cup full per load. It cleans well and you can add some fragrance drops if you choose to, but it's not necessary. Hope this helps someone else out, cause it has really saves me a lot of money.

My favorite way to economize is eating home most days. The great thing about it is that over the years (my oldest is 24 ) we have enjoyed conversations with our children that could not occurred otherwise. You cannot underestimate the power of the family dinner hour.
Thank you for considering me in your giveaway.

My biggest tip is to actually have a budget written out to stick to and NOT fly by the seat of my pants from month to month…

  10. says

I want to win! I use automatic deposits into my savings account. I make my own laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, and household cleansers. I try not to buy too many clothes for my son, and spending is a no-no right now.

  11. Michele says

I write down all of my expenses on an envelope each month and total them up to see how I’m doing.

  12. Jessie says

I make homemade gifts for everyone usually with patterns I get for free online. I also keep a stash of already made extras for those occasions that sneak up on you. I’d like to start making enough to sell eventually.

  13. Carolyn S says

What a fun and neat way to make this whole budget thing a bit brighter! Best money saving tip is just to try to reduce the clutter in our home and reuse and repurpose things we already have

I enjoy your blog Crystal! I think the best way to save money on food is to always make a menu, buy only the items needed on your menu and stick to it. I check my Kroger ad to see what meat is on sale and go from there. I can usually use the meat in more than one meal so that helps too. But I have only two to cook for now so that does make it easier on me.

  15. Julie says

I menu plan, shop sales and do the envelope cash system. I’m still learning, but we are slowly paying off our debt – and this adorable wallet will totally help!

  16. Anonymous says

This would allow me to not have 6 different envelopes floating around in the bottom of my purse. This would be an absolute joy to pull out in the store! Very cute:)

  17. says

we do lots of things to save money. don’t have a tv (watch tv/movies online)

make sure we live under our “means” so we can save over 10% of every paycheck etc.

would love to win this for a friend who is just starting the envelope system.

  18. Alice says

I sure would love to win this. I am at the age(67)where I am so thankful my grandmother and Mom taught me how to do things. I learned how to quilt, crochet, sew, garden, etc. I also make my own homemade jams/jelly. I recycle everything I can. I learned long ago how to be frugal. It’s just a way of life for me and my family.

  19. Robin Murphy says

I love your blog and this giveaway! My favorite way to save money is coming from scratch and making my own household products!

  20. Katie says

I don’t know what I would do without your blog! I so need one of these right now! I had a Dave Ramsey one that got stolen along with my purse last year. :( I’m so tight on the budget that I haven’t found the need to replace it. I just manage to keep the system with another wallet.

    • Crystal says

Katie, I’m so sorry to hear that your purse (and wallet) were stolen! I’m glad you didn’t let it discourage you from your plan. Blessings to your and your family!

  21. LaCosta Van Dyk says

My favorite way to save money is to buy things used – at garage sales or on craigslist or ebay :). The envelope system looks awesome!

  22. says

Thank you so much for this opportunity! My wallet is falling apart so I was just thinking about how nice it would be to get a new one!

My favorite way to save money is to write down every single thing we buy which helps keep me accountable. I also love using coupons to match up with in-store sales, which means even more savings!

  23. Diana C says

I try and only use the money allocated for certain categories each month. I would love to win so that I could keep the money out of paper envelopes that tear so easily.

  24. Rhiannon says

Love your blog! I have friends that use the envelope system and love it! It’s probably time that we look into for our family!

  25. rachel says

Recently, i’ve been hitting the clearance section @ my local dollar general. I just bought 2 bags of 25lbs rice for $2.25 each, 2 bags of dried black eyed peas for $1 each, shampoo for $1 or less, toothpaste, cat treats, etc. Love that clearance section.

  27. Margot S. says

What a great giveaway! This would be so helpful to getting out of debt. I make as much as I can from scratch: meals to laundry detergent to cleaning supplies.
