Letters of Inspiration…to yourself

Sometimes YOU can be your own best inspiration.

Do you remember that first day of something new?  The excitement and butterflies of a new relationship?  The excitement when you first became your husband’s wife?  How about the excitement of the first day of school (or was I the only nerd who got excited about that???)

The point is that people tend to be excited at first, but then it fades.  I have been experiencing that regarding my weight loss journey.

As I pondered and prayed about my lack of motivation, I realized that, sometimes, maybe I can be my own best inspiration.  Why?  Because I am the only one who truly understands why and how this journey and goal is important to me.  I’ve reminded myself about how this is really a spiritual journey, proving myself faithful and reliable to follow through with a goal.  I’ve also reminded myself that this journey is so much more than the number on the scale.  During those first weeks of newness, I understood all those things, and was filled with the excitement of the journey and triumph.  I need to remember that.

But, I think this is more than just weight loss inspiration.  I think it’s something we all need to do periodically—remind ourselves why we do what we do.  Are you having one of those sentimental days where everything seems to be going right, and you feel your heart just can’t contain your feelings of love and happiness toward your children?  Jot those thoughts down.  Pull them out on a day when things are going not-so-right, and remind yourself of those happy thoughts. Do you need to remember the importance of making healthy choices, in order to ward off a craving?  Remember why you have a budget to ward off an irresponsible purchase?  Remember why peace in your home is so important to ward off another disagreement with your spouse or losing your patience with your children.

Sometimes, we all need a little reminder…some positive thoughts to drive out a bad day!

With that goal in mind, I’m going to be writing myself a little letter.  A mission statement of sorts, to remind myself why those things are important, and hopefully when crunch time comes, I can remember why it’s so important.
