Day 8: Where are you going?

Thanks for joining us for the 21 Day Self-Discipline Challenge!  See what it’s all about here.  If you’re just joining in, you can get the book here.

First of all, I have to report for those of you following my drama of semi-failure…I’m happy to report that for Day 7, I completed ALL of my assignments. Honestly, I had mentally given up on the working out thing. I was done. And then I read the encouragement from some of you and found an encouraging note on Twitter this morning about working out, and it was just the accountability (and conviction!) that I needed. I just realized that I had to get myself together!

I stayed home from church tonight (for many reasons), and in the 2 hours that my family was gone to church I cleaned up the kitchen from supper, worked out for 25 minutes, deep cleaned and organized both the bathroom and the linen closet, and talked to my mom on the phone for a while.  It was a great feeling to get all that done, and my hubby was very pleased as well.  So, thank you all so much for all of your encouragement!

Today’s Assignment:  Keep your goals in sight

I am all over it when it comes to putting things on paper! I am a list maker, note taker kinda person. The only problem here is that I’m not so good at keeping it visible, so I will do that today—make a goal (and a plan), and put it in a visible location.

When you write your goals down, be sure and don’t then tuck them away inside of some rarely-opened notebook. Post them in a conspicuous location and review them often. You’ll be amazed at how much of a difference this small step will make in propelling you toward success in achieving those goals!

I know this is yet another thing I need to work on (are you seeing a pattern?!?). I’m really good about having goals but not having the discipline and follow through to make them happen. So I just forget about it. I still have them, but don’t do anything about it. I’m committing to write out some goals in a visible place and look at them, read them, think about them every single day.

Assignment 1: Small Habit (dressed and bed made as soon as I get up)
If nothing else happens out of this challenge, at the very least, I feel like I have got back on track with this habit.

Assignment 2: Continue with Life Hack
I did it!  I worked out.  Thanks so much to all of you for your inspiration.  I have $1 in my workout jar, and after the 8th, I will have $2.   (how’s that for positive thinking???)

Assignment 3: Mega-Project
Yesterday, I made it through the bathroom and linen closet. Today, I will be tackling the spare bedroom. This is literally such a huge project that I allotted several days to it, but today I will start…I’m really excited about my progress so far.

How are you doing? How did day 8 go for you? What are your big goals that you’re working toward?

    Disciplined 21 Day 8
    Goals in sight:
I made a list of goals for me and a few for the kids too!

    Small Habit:
Kids made beds and room is clean! They even took it upon themselves to declutter the VHS video shelf in the tv room. They got rid of half of the videos!! Loving that I read about small changes! With only the goal of them making their beds before leaving their room, they are making their own internal changes!

And my bed was made. After reading a blog post about bed making ( http://down—to—earth.blogspot.com/2012/06/making-bed-revisited.html ), I was inspired to reward and encourage myself and finally threw out that shabby mattress cover that was falling apart. I got a nice new comfortable mattress cover for us. Not the most expensive, but not the cheapest either (it was juuuussssttt right). As soon as the bed was remade (so thankful for my daughters making it for me), I could not help but want to dive under the covers and just wallow in it!

    Life Hack:
Doing ok. Today was a busy day which made it hard on my arm, so I am taking it easy today.

    Mega Project:
With not being able to move my arm or life anything heavy anymore, I decided instead of decluttering, I would learn about selling my decluttered items online to help make some holiday money.

What a great day and I am completely exhausted. Got my small project; getting up earlier done (having a work meeting did help motivate me). Accomplished the life hack; I worked out and if felt so good. This time I added in some motivation workout music and turned the talking portion of my video down. Will do this aspect again tomorrow. Mega project is continuing with great progress. Plus I got a few extra things done tonight too. What a blessed and great day.

So glad you worked out! I bet that felt great! This 21 days thing just keeps getting better. I love making lists, but the problem is they stay all neat in my spiral notebook. Making it visual was a huge help!

Crystal, HOORAY for your success with your workout. That is truly fantastic! I think success is even sweeter when we have to work so hard for it. I’m celebrating with you!

Thursdays are my looooong day and I am on my way to bed–finally! But wanted to check in briefly. I did okay in all three areas today, though I struggled with all them I did follow through. Here’s to hard won victories! Tomorrow I will put up some visual reminders, and will continue to shun negative thought patterns. Looking forward to another day and another assignment in this journey.

Thanks, Bethany! That’s so true that victory is even sweeter when it comes tough! I’m so glad that you were able to stick with it even though it was tough!

I just posted my Day 8… I had 'life interrupted' over the weekend and chose to pick up the strands of the the challenge when I got back home and settled!
