Weekly Meal Plan

If you missed my announcement, go here to read it.  To make a long story short, I’m participating with some other bloggers to host an online book club for Lysa Terkeurst’s Made to Crave book.  I’ve known for the past year that I need to get back on track.  It’s been about a year ago that I fell off the wagon and didn’t look back. Still, it took 6 months for me to start gaining the weight back, and another 6 months to get me to where I am today…having gained back all 23 pounds I lost and then some. I topped out this time at 208.4.  But the number on the scale isn’t the most important thing, it’s the way I feel–physically, emotionally, spiritually…drained.

I am praying for God’s strength to get me through this, and to finally end up on the other side of this trial for good.

I’ve been walking in the mornings with a friend, although my husband is out of town for the week so that will have to be put on hold.  The plan is to try and do something at home, so hopefully that will happen.

The other part of my plan is to get back on track with meal planning. I know that helps tremendously. Even if my planned meals aren’t “diet” or “super healthy” ones, they are better than convenience foods and/or fast food.

Even as I type this, I feel the war within my spirit.  I desperately want to get back on track.  I desperately want to eat healthy things that make me feel good.  And the thought of being successful after such a long battle fills me with hope.

But even as I know these things, there is a little devil on my shoulder.  Telling me that this week is going to be hard with my husband out of town. Telling me that I might as well splurge. Reminding me how good it would taste.

Lord, I pray that you will give me the strength to honor You with my body and my choices.

Monday
Lunch: Grilled chicken salad with homemade croutons.
Supper:  Spaghetti with garlic bread and salad.

Tuesday
Lunch: Taco Salad with tortilla chips.
Supper: Quesadillas with corn & black bean salad.

Wednesday
Lunch: Brown Rice w/ Veggies and Chicken
Supper: Chicken parmesan garlic bread

Thursday
Lunch: Leftover brown rice and veggies
Supper: Pork chop, fried potatoes, green beans

Friday
Lunch:  Sandwiches
Supper: Grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli & cheese

Saturday
Lunch:  Quesadillas w/ corn & black bean salad
Supper: baked potato with salad

Sunday
Lunch: roast with carrots & potatoes, green beans
Supper: pepperoni rolls or homemade pizza made from my Calzone dough, with salad.

    I am so proud of you! I very.much.understand.this. I am completely on the same page you are… such desires, such battles… what you call the devil on your shoulder (appropriately so) is what I call *old tapes*. that negative voice that wants us to cave in when in turn God truly has a purpose for us in all of this…

      Thank you for the encouragement, Sheri! I definitely need it. But I know if I can just get past this first week, it will get easier. The hardest days to stick with it are the first few.

    yum! this all looks delicious! I have been trying to lose weight for a while now, after I gained way more than needed with my first baby. It is starting to click for me finally! I hope you can get ahead of this as well. Good luck :-)

    I just wanted to share that after years of not being able to lose weight with regular dieting, I was finally able to drop 22.6 lbs in 6 months by going gluten-free. I know it’s not for everyone, but it’s working for me when other plans didn’t.

    Your menu looks great and it’s already nearly gluten-free. Just skip the croutons and bread and switch to a gluten free pasta (I like Tinkyadas) and you’re there!

      Thanks for the tips, Lisa. My problem is that eating healthier in general does work for me…it’s just having the discipline to stick with it! So glad you found something that will work for you :)

    You can do this! Turn your little devil into an angel… Since hubs is out of town, you can eat all your favorite healthy stuff that he doesn’t like! Plus, God is faithful! He won’t allow any temptation that you can’t overcome. (I’m giving myself this same pep talk right now!). :D

      Jenni, that’s just the thing. We never eat “diet” foods, and hubby is great with eating healthier foods. He is actually my accountability sometimes, and when he’s gone, it is so. much. harder. But, I’m feeling pretty good about it so far this morning, so we’ll see.

    I am praying for you Crystal! It is such a hard battle but one I know you can conquer. Asking for strength for you this week that you will get off on the right foot and will have strength especially with you hubby being away. Blessings to you friend!

    Oh- I know this struggle so well… I really do. Thanks for being real and honest… I'm going to pray about this onlne book study… I have a newborn so finding the time might be tough but it would certainly do me some good. Blessings!

      I hope you can find time to participate, the chapters are quite short–most are only 5-6 pages of text and then a couple pages of discussion questions. I certainly understand the demands of a newborn though! I used to read while I nursed sometimes :) It was so nice because I could have time to read without feeling guilty that I should be doing something else instead. It didn’t always work out and sometimes I focused more on baby, but it was nice occasionally. Congratulations on your newest blessing!
