I LOVE the Little Critter books by Mercer Mayer!

Which is why I was so excited when I found out that Tommy Nelson has introduced a new line of faith-based Little Critter books, It’s True and You Go First.

It’s True

In It’s True, children learn the importance of telling the whole truth, and that little white lies are still lies. The story and illustrations are what you’ve come to expect from Mercer Mayer in the Little Critter books.  The “faith” element of this particular story was a very brief, passing mention of a verse that isn’t even really in context (“In the Bible, God says the truth will set you free. If you don’t tell the truth, you will never be very happy.”). I appreciate the moral lesson provided by the book, which you’ll find in many of the Little Critter books, but was expecting more of a faith focus from this publisher.

However, thee is a fine line between incorporating God’s word and not making the entire book sound preachy, so I can understand that, and we still really enjoyed the books. I just wanted to share that for those who might be expecting more of a faith focus.

You Go First

In, You Go First, children learn the importance of preferring others and putting them first. I appreciate the process Little Critter goes through in learning the lesson.

My boys, 4 and 6, loved these books. They have requested them several times.  There are some funny elements to the story that keep them very engaged, and they love to see what happens with Little Critter. It’s a great way for us to start conversations about the issues of honesty and thinking of others before themselves.

There is just something about that Little Critter! I think I would enjoy both books, but especially You Go First.

My favorite would probably be the, You Go First. With three young’uns who are constantly fighting over such things I think this would be very relevant.

I loved Little Critter books when I was growing up… now that I have a son, I'm wanting to get some of these books to read to him. I think that You Go First would be my favorite of those two.

I would like It’s True, little white lies continue into adulthood and it would be great to have examples to explain to children. Little Critter was my favorite growing up!

I absolutely adore Little Critter books and so does my kiddo! I think he’d enjoy the It’s True on most of all. We talk a lot about honesty and it would resonate with him.

My 4 kids loved Little Critter books while growing up. I'm so glad to see new ones. I'd love to win these for my grandchildren who are 2,4 &6. The 2&4 yo love to be read to & they know I always have books for them. My 6 yo grandaughter enjoys reading with me, we take turns reading. I think the book You Go First would be the one I'd like. Sometimes it's hard to let siblings go first & wait your turn. Thanks for a great giveaway.
