Jesus Calling Kids

Family devotion time is very important to us. We love our book of Bible Stories from Tommy Nelson, and of course we read from our real Bible’s as well. However, we are always looking for great resources for our children. Which is why I was so excited to get the Jesus Calling for Kids: Deluxe Edition book from Tommy Nelson. This book is hardbound with an imitation leather cover that is built to withstand the daily use that it encourages and we have enjoyed using it with our boys.

This is a kid’s version of the popular adult devotional. The book contains 365 kid-friendly devotions, written as if Jesus were speaking to your little one. The devotions are written in a perpetual manner (no day of the week given), so they can be used over and over.

The devotions are intended for ages 8-12, but could be adapted for other ages. My oldest son is 6, and is on the spectrum, so he doesn’t easily comprehend the idea of these devotions being written as if Jesus were speaking to him. Also, since these are not actually the words of Jesus, I didn’t feel completely comfortable with that aspect either.  I didn’t want to unnecessarily confuse him. So, I reword them a bit for him, speaking in the third person, and we can easily use this book to do devotions together as a family. This might be easier for an 8 year old to understand, which is the suggested minimum age for the book.

The really neat thing about this book is that your entire family can be reading similar things. There are Jesus Calling devotions for the whole family, and they are written in a way that compliments–so that you can each read your respective versions and discuss them together as a family.

And, the really great thing is that Tommy Nelson has generously provided a copy for me to give away to one of you :)

We do devotions at breakfast, and because our youngest has a difficult time sitting, we use a devotion book called Gods Amazing Creatures & Me…it has short lessons with illustrations, and an animal for each lesson. It connects that animal and the animal's qualities (the way God made it) to the scripture for the day in a way young ones can understand. There is also a memory verse for every lesson. My kids do these over and over and we love them!

The devotions in this book are great for children. It gives them a daily devotional that they can understand but it’s great for parents as well. It makes for the perfect parent/child bonding time with the Lord at the breakfast table. I highly recommend this book as well as the original “Jesus Calling” devotional.

I love to hear your feedback and value your thoughts! All I ask is that we remain respectful and civil, even when we disagree. Thanks so much for reading. I appreciate you!
