The Promise DVD

Throughout our marriage, we’ve always lived 5.5-6 hours from one set of our parents. Since we want to see our families as much as possible, it has meant a lot of traveling for our family–even more over the last 6+ years since grandchildren are involved!

A couple of years ago, during a great sale, we decided to invest in a portable DVD player for our car. It was a great investment! We still rely mostly on busy bags, activities, music, and fun road games. However, in a pinch, we can turn on a DVD.

So, I’m always looking for great, kid-friendly DVD’s. This one is especially nice because it is a Christ-Focused story of Christmas, in animated form.  My boys watched it on our way to grandma’s for Thanksgiving, and enjoyed it so much they wanted to watch it again the next time we were in the car for a trip.

Although the movie does “fill in some gaps,” with a few things, like the relationship between Mary and her parents, overall it remains faithful to the Biblical account of Jesus’ birth. The animation is beautiful, as well as the music involved.

Although this is animated and for children, the music isn’t the typical, cheesy music you find in many children’s movies. The music and lyrics are beautiful, and this is something that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Some info from the publisher:

The Promise: The Birth of the Messiah is an animated musical celebration of one of the most pivotal events in all human history, the birth of Jesus Christ.

This beautifully crafted musical is a faithful adaptation of the birth narrative from the Gospel of Luke in both story and song. The animated production leverages optical motion technology to blend traditional animation techniques with the performance talents of ballet dancers and dramatic stage actors. The result is a unique and worshipful story experience that will inspire audiences young and old for years to come.

You can watch a preview, or buy a copy at Amazon.

the Christmas tradition I like most of all is all the family sitting down at one table eating the Christmas meal. I love looking at all my families happy faces and talking together. warms my heart just thinking about it.

My favorite Christmas tradition is that my family goes to Christmas Eve church and then we ride around looking at Christmas lights. After that, it’s time for ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ and bed.

My favorite Christmas tradition is reading the cards we recieve together as a family before bed, and adding those families to our nightly prayers.
