My Story books

Today, I’m sharing 2 more great books from Tommy Nelson!

My Story: David: My fight with Goliath; and
My Story: Joseph: My Life in Egypt

You may have noticed that I love their resources and these books are no different.  We love sharing these OT stories with our children–stories of God’s faithfulness to His people, and stories of Him using His people in tremendous ways.

Such an inspiration to them to let God work in their lives, I get excited just thinking about the ways God can use them.

These books are for ages 3+, so I expected a very basic, childish story with these books. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Although the books are written in a very fun way and geared for children, the stories are long enough to give a good in depth look at the character and circumstances.  The book is written in first person and utilizes fun fonts and illustrations to keep children engaged while reading these stories.

Here is a look at a couple of the pages from David’s story:

Furthermore, each book includes 2 full pages crammed full of stickers, and a few pages of a “sticker journal.” Because there are way more stickers than would fit on the sticker journal pages, we decided to use them to recreate the book and tell the story. They did this on construction paper. (i.e. this is a great way to reinforce skills like reading comprehension, sequencing, etc. For little ones, placing the stickers can also help them practice hand-eye coordination.

I was always fascinated by Jonathon. He could have been jealous of David, but he recognized God’s hands in things, and loved David as a brother.

My favorite OT character is Joseph because of his ability to rely on God no matter what his circumstances. He never grew bitter or turned away from his faith, he only allowed God to use what happened to him for good. I’d love to win this for my girls who are 2 and 4!

For my kids my favorite is the story of David and Goliath because it really illustrates how God can use anyone He chooses for His purposes, and how we are strong because of what God can do through us : )

I love to hear your feedback and value your thoughts! All I ask is that we remain respectful and civil, even when we disagree. Thanks so much for reading. I appreciate you!
