The Headmistress of Rosemere by Sarah Ladd

About the Book

From the description:

Patience Creighton has devoted her life to running her father’s boarding school. But when the enigmatic master of the estate appears at her door, battered and unconscious, the young headmistress suddenly finds her livelihood—and her heart —in the hands of one dangerously
handsome gentleman.

Patience is 25 years old and as such, is considered a spinster. She has devoted herself to running her father’s boardinghouse. However, with dangerous creditors after him and little money to pay them, Will may be forced to sacrifice the estate to pay off his debts.

My Thoughts

Sarah Ladd has a special ability to build dynamic and well-rounded characters. The characters aren’t flat stereotypes. Instead we find in Patience the emotions that we would expect to find from a girl going through the challenges and difficult circumstances she is facing. However, we also find that Patience has courage and a deep abiding faith that helps her get through these challenges. Her faith inspires the reader.

It was nice to see the relationship grow between a woman like Patience and a man with a past like William. I enjoyed seeing him grow up and take responsibility for his actions. Seeing two completely different people come together was interesting because Sarah Ladd did it so naturally. Again, her characters are dynamic and she took the time to build their relationship in a believable way.

I would strongly recommend this book to readers of Christian/historical fiction.
