Thanksgiving resources

I love Thanksgiving! It is a more “modern” holiday, and we know exactly how it originated–it is a Christian holiday, began as a day to give God the thanks and glory for His provision. Amen!

Because the history of Thanksgiving is so accessible, I’m excited to focus on that in our homeschool in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. We have several great Thanksgiving books, but will be focusing on this one: Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving by Eric Metaxas.

I love this book because it focuses on the miracle of Thanksgiving.  It’s such a beautiful story to me and one that exemplifies the verse: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (-Romans 8:28).  The way the Lord orchestrated so many things, and worked through so many things for the Pilgrims and their survival is truly amazing to me!  So, we will be discussing the many aspects of this book.

We will also be watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. I especially love the Mayflower Voyagers bonus feature–a very fun and accessible way for kiddos to see the Thanksgiving story.

We made a fall thumbprint tree last week, and I’m looking forward to lots of great Thanksgiving activities over the next few weeks. My friend Jill has this great Thanksgiving School pinterest group board with tons of fantastic ideas.

We will also be using our Gratitude Cards (a free printable for YOU to use as well!) And you can see all of my favorite gratitude based Thanksgiving resources there. My post was getting super long, so I split it up into two–the giving thanks resources and the more history based resources.
