That thing I was ridiculously excited about is HERE!!!

I’ve been working furiously, behind the scenes on one of my biggest projects ever.

It all started when I was looking up ideas for memorizing Bible verses with children. So many of the ideas I saw seemed to stress memorizing as many verses as possible, as quickly as possible. We were doing AWANA at the time (our kids were 3 and 5), and they were encouraging kids to memorize several verses each week. (just to note, I think AWANA is a great program and my children really enjoyed it).

I have one child who is a whiz at cramming. He could read through the verse a couple times right before class and then recite it perfectly. But all of this started to bother me.

First of all, I know (from both scientific research and experience) that things “learned” in a cramming sort of way are only for the short term. Most of those things don’t last in the long term memory.

The second problem was that they were memorizing words, but not understanding the concepts and meaning of them.

I looked around, but didn’t really find a memory verse system that also worked on comprehension. So, I decided to create my own.

And the Firm Foundation Memory Verse System was born.

A Firm Foundation Bible Memory Verse System for Kids! Includes parent handbook, activities, copy work, and more.

This work book goes through 12 foundational verses as memory verses. However, instead of just memorizing, the workbook is a study on those 12 verses.

There are activities to help them memorize the verse (such as fill-in-the-blank activities, putting together the verse with cut out words, copywork, etc.). But these studies go a bit further than just memorizing. There are also comprehension questions, definitions and explanations, along with activities to help them learn what the verse really means and how to apply it to their own lives.

This expanded system of memorizing scripture is important for 2 reasons:

Retention. Really understanding the verse helps with retention. Most of us are naturally more likely to remember things when we have a point of reference and things make sense. When our kids understand the verse, they are more likely to remember it for the long term.

Similarly, working more extensively with each verse helps to solidify it in their little hearts and minds. I will also be sharing our review system in coming weeks, as that is really important as well.

Understanding. Though understanding can help with the memorizing, it’s also important on it’s own. We want our children to learn scripture…not just memorize words. I want to be sure that they know what they are memorizing, to the extent that they are able. In order for that to happen, we have to invest in teaching our children what those memory verses mean and why they are important.

This workbook can help with that

I invited a few of my blogging friends to try out the workbook, and the response has been amazing! It is such a blessing for me to see children learning about the Lord and hiding His words in their hearts.

The workbook is regularly priced at $17, but I wanted to give everyone a chance to get it at a super affordable price. So, for this week, it is just $5!!!

That price ends at midnight on Friday night (6/24), so be sure to grab up  your copy while it’s just $5. And, share it with your friends who might be interested…I don’t want anyone to miss out on this great sale.

I love to hear your feedback and value your thoughts! All I ask is that we remain respectful and civil, even when we disagree. Thanks so much for reading. I appreciate you!

Thank you for joining in the discussion!
