I told you last week in my 5 things I’m loving this week post, that I am loving When Calls the Heart lately. Well, the truth is, I’ve been loving it since it first premiered.
The show is loosely based on a Christian book series by Janette Oke, and is from Hallmark. As we have come to expect from Hallmark, the show is family friendly. There have been a couple of things that I saw that I wish weren’t there (a couple of “drinking” instances from our heroes, a mild curse word. But for the most part this is a very clean and family friendly show, and the negative things are shown as negative things and not glorified. I love this time period, so the show has been really fun for me to watch.
If you are completely unfamiliar with the show, it is the story of a wealthy city girl socialite, Elizabeth Thatcher who ends up teaching school in the very small town of Coal Valley. The show follows her and mountie, Jack Thornton through their trials and sometimes humorous adventures, and of course there is a romance in bloom there–several actually. But, you’ll have to watch for yourself to see which ones last.
I already own Season 1 and Season 2. Unfortunately the When Calls the Heart Season 3 DVD Set isn’t quite out yet, but I have it taped on my DVR so that I can watch the episodes that way until it comes out on DVD.
Onto the FREE stuff…
If you are NEW to the Show
If you are new to the show, I have an exciting announcement. I am partnering with fishflix.com for this post and they are generously allowing me to give away some FREE DVD’s so that you can try out the show!
Let me tell you a bit about how Hallmark has done this series. The episodes are written so that each 2 episodes can be put together into a “movie” of sorts, in which the main story lines tie up fairly neatly. So, there is always some stuff going in the background (such as the romance between Jack and Elizabeth, and some other plot lines), but the main conflict of each little movie is resolved nicely to a satisfying conclusion. Basically you will enjoy these movies even if you haven’t seen the other shows.
To request your free DVD, simply fill out the form below. DVD’s are limited and I will update this post when all have been claimed.
